On the evening of February 27th, we gathered both in person at Yoga Sanctuary Minneapolis and virtually across the state for a profound act of community reclamation: Cien Años de Afrolatinidad: Guided Meditation & Community Gathering. When we closed out Black History Month, this intentional space served as a powerful reminder that Latine history is Black history. In a moment where our Minneapolis neighbors have faced significant challenges, this event was a strategic pivot toward healing, restoration, and the affirmation of our Afro-Latine and Caribbean roots.
A Sanctuary of Shared Witness
The atmosphere was one of deep respect and grounded energy. Guided by the principle that our community’s greatest asset is its collective wellbeing, the meditation offered a rare moment of stillness in an often chaotic world.
By centering Afro-descendant roots, we didn't just host a wellness event; we practiced Narrative Sovereignty. We chose to define our identity through the lens of dignity and self-care, honoring a century of Afro-Latine presence that has shaped the cultural and economic landscape of Minnesota.

Solidarity in Action
This gathering was a beautiful bridge between different facets of our diaspora. We were honored to see:
The Power of Presence: From the folks who filled the room in Minneapolis to our virtual participants on Zoom, the collective energy was palpable.
Radical Hospitality: Our Constitutional Observer ensured a safe, sacred environment, allowing attendees to fully submerge into the practice of restoration.
Collective Giving: The event highlighted the importance of supporting Afro-Latine and Caribbean creatives and wellness practitioners, emphasizing that our giving back must be a year-round commitment.

Why This Matters for our Futuro
At LatinoLEAD, we understand that healing is a prerequisite for leadership. To lead with agency in our boardrooms, schools, and neighborhoods, we must be whole. This event was a manifestation of our Advocacy through Wellbeing—proving that when we uplift the flavor and alma of our Afro-Latine siblings, we strengthen the entire Latine movement.
A heartfelt gracias to Yoga Sanctuary Minneapolis and everyone who joined us in this act of solidarity. We leave this space grounded, restored, and ready to continue the work of building a Minnesota where every Afro-Latine story is seen and celebrated.
