The rivalry between Fabio Wardley and Frazer Clarke has been simmering for nearly a year. The white-collar boxer against the Olympic medallist, it's an Easter Sunday fight not to be missed.
We're approaching the start of fight night on Easter Sunday at the O2 and the atmosphere is building in south east London. Both fighters looked good on the scales at yesterday's weigh-in and all is set for a blockbuster contest for the British heavyweight title.
Fabio Wardley is almost unique among top British heavyweights. Not only does the 29-year-old from Ipswich not have a nickname going into what will be his 18th professional fight on Sunday, he has reached this point via the white-collar boxing route. Beginning with four underground shows while still working as a recruitment consultant and playing amateur weekend soccer, Wardley's career has blossomed and he now holds the British heavyweight title, with defeats of Nick Webb, Nathan Gorman and most recently David Adeleye on an increasingly impressive resume. He's a fearsome puncher, with Anthony Joshua's trainer Ben Davison in his corner.
Frazer Clarke, meanwhile, is a highly schooled amateur who won bronze at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Since turning pro in 2021, the 32-year-old has tried to move quickly and recently beat an out-of-shape former world title challenger in the form of Mariusz Wach, followed by Dave Allen last September. This fight for Wardley's British and WBA continental belts had been ordered last April, but Clarke pulled out of purse bids for reasons that have never been revealed. 'Duck' is a strong word in boxing, but that's what the Wardley camp use.

Fabio Wardley and Frazer Clarke will go head to head at London’s O2 Arena tonight, in a long-awaited clash for the British and Commonwealth heavyweight titles.
Wardley was ordered to defend the British belt against Clarke one year ago, but the latter’s team removed him from purse bids for the fight – to the frustration of both heavyweights.
Wardley, 29, went on to stop David Adeleye in October to pick up the Commonwealth title and remain undefeated, while Clarke, 32, notched wins over Mariusz Wach and David Allen – also staying unbeaten.
Now, Wardley and the Olympic bronze medalist will finally square off, as they headline at the O2 in this highly-anticipated grudge match, with viral star Ben Whittaker among the undercard fighters.
Wardley and Clarke seemed to be on a collision course in 2023, but an agreement between the Britons could not be reached, with Wardley instead defending his national title against David Adeleye in October.
Wardley won that contest in Saudi Arabia via seventh-round TKO, with Olympic medalist Clarke beating Mariusz Wach and David Allen in the meantime.
Fabio Wardley puts his British and Commonwealth heavyweight titles on the line tonight as he fights Frazer Clarke at the O2 Arena. It is a hugely-anticipated bout between the two unbeaten rivals, one that was first ordered in 2022, but plans for it to take place last year fell through when Clarke’s promoters pulled him out ahead of purse bids.
The 2020 Olympic boxing bronze medalist has since gone the full ten rounds with Mariusz Wach and then stopped Dave Allen, victories Clarke’s team hope ensure he is now ready for title fights. Wardley, 17-0 as a professional with 16 knockouts, beat David Adeleye in Saudi Arabia in October, picking up the Commonwealth strap to go with the British belt he has held since stopping Nathan Gorman at the end of 2022.
Elsewhere on the card, Florian Marku takes on Chris Kongo, after what has been an increasingly ill-tempered build-up. Ben Whittaker is also back in action, and is expected to prove too good for Leon Willings, while Alen Babic kicked off the night with a stoppage win over Steve Robinson.
