LatinoLEAD is proud to announce our continued participation in the Vida Digna Coalition’s “One Economy for Minnesota” campaign. This vital initiative aims to ensure ITIN-holders (Individual Taxpayer Identification Number) are fully integrated into Minnesota’s economy, fostering healthier, safer, and more stable communities. With 21,000 ITIN-holders in the state, this campaign seeks to dismantle barriers and promote equal access to essential services, creating a more inclusive and equitable environment for all residents.
However, LatinoLEAD's commitment to advocacy extends far beyond this campaign. Our history of supporting the rights and well-being of the Latine community in Minnesota is long and steadfast. During the 2023 Minnesota Legislative Session, LatinoLEAD played a pivotal role in advocating for several crucial bills. Notably, we supported the expansion of the Working Family Tax Credit to include ITIN users (HF1400/SF1600) and enabled ITIN users to apply for homestead classification (HF1343/SF174). Both of these significant bills were signed into law on May 24th, marking a major victory for economic justice and inclusivity.
In addition to these legislative triumphs, LatinoLEAD also secured $250,000 for capacity building (HF2440/SF2293) to enhance our workforce development initiatives. This funding is a critical step forward in our mission to empower the Latine workforce, providing essential resources to support professional growth and economic stability.
LatinoLEAD’s advocacy efforts are not conducted in isolation. We stand in solidarity with our partner organizations, working collectively to advance the Minnesota Latino Leadership Alliance (MiLLA)’s 2023 Latine Policy Agenda. This comprehensive agenda addresses a range of issues, from ensuring fairness in construction (HF865/SF754) to expanding healthcare access (HF1095/SF896) and establishing Paid Family and Medical Leave (HF2/SF2). These legislative efforts are designed to enhance the quality of life for all Minnesotans, particularly those in the Latine community.
As we move forward, LatinoLEAD is committed to educating the community about these new laws and advocating for further enhancements to benefit all residents. We understand the importance of accessible information and will leverage bilingual media to ensure that all members of our community are informed and empowered to take advantage of these legislative changes.
Through the “One Economy for Minnesota” campaign, we aim to change this narrative. By advocating for the inclusion of ITIN-holders in both the private and municipal sectors, we are working to demonstrate the universal positive outcomes of expanding access for ITIN-holders at the local level. Our ultimate goal is to provoke statewide policy change, ensuring equal access for all.
LatinoLEAD’s involvement in this campaign is driven by our belief in the power of community and the importance of collective action. We are grateful for the support and collaboration of our network members, board of directors, and partners. Together, we will continue to advocate for policies that uplift and empower the Latine community.
